I'm browsing through several old .spine
files, opening them one by one by double-clicking on them in Windows Explorer/File Explorer or pressing Enter
.
The file opening behavior is a bit weird.
test 1: It doesn't automatically switch to Spine from explorer. (which is kinda okay)
(1) I pressed enter with the file selected.
(2) waited for 30 seconds. Nothing happened.
(3) Clicked on the window to focus, it didn't immediately load.
(4) Moved my mouse around over stuff, switched modes. Then it interrupted me and opened the file.
test 2: It doesn't open the file even if the window is in focus
(1) I pressed enter with the file selected
(2) waited 30 seconds. Nothing happened.
(3) Clicked on the window to focus. Kept my mouse still over an empty spot in the tree view.
(4) Waited for 30 seconds. Nothing happened.
(5) Waved my mouse around, hovered over the different nodes in the Tree view. It interrupted me and opened the file.
test 3: FPS counter was on so I decided to pay attention to it.
Did all the stuff in test 2. I noticed a few things.
1) The fps counter seems to stop when I don't move my mouse. I think this that hibernating behavior that was built into Spine to save processing power (and battery life).
2) When I move my mouse around, even on an empty spot in the tree view, the fps counter updates. If I keep it moving around in circles long enough (like 5 seconds maybe), it opens the file.
Anyway, the whole time, there's no indication about whether Spine was actually loading anything or my double-click didn't register. I ended up going back and forth to explorer.
My conclusions are (1) this could use some better feedback and (2) something fishy is going on. (3) It's annoying when you want to open and check several files but it's not responsive or telling me what it's doing or what I should do to make it work.
