OK, this is a LITTLE off the beaten path but verified at least as I can tell. Not really expecting a fix but I thought you might want to be aware.
I use Gamemaker and Spine. For the most part my working process involves both being open all the time while I test and enter game assets. Last weekend while I was running test builds from Gamemaker the builds would start doing desktop crashes. Hard crashes with no error messages from Gamemaker, only the Windows crap out message.
After a lot of debugging it seems that having Spine running at the same time as Gamemaker (specifically, one of Gamemaker's test builds kicked off by the main program) would be a guaranteed crash. If Spine was started at any time while Gamemaker was open then the build would crash eventually when it started.
There's a WAY longer story to this but my point is, it's a pretty direct correlation. As a reference I did not update Gamemaker and this did not use to happen. The only program updated that weekend was Spine and that is when the problems started. They never occurred before and I was also using old Spine files so it was not like I was doing anything too different with the program.
I think I narrowed it down to some sort of video related problem and that is where I left it. Looks like there was some sort of NVidia related memory crash. Oh well.
Just wanted to put that out there. Again - not expecting any drill down on this but wanted to say point out a verifiable experience I was having.
Thank you for listening!
